Our History

Traka was founded in 1995. Learn how we built on our foundation with the concept of key management solutions to becoming the global leader as part of the ASSA ABLOY Group.

 

It all started in 1990...

An idea first conceived for British Airways, to assist them in the management of keys for their ground support vehicles

 

  • 1993

    First prototype cabinet installed for British Airways

  • Traka Ltd is formed in 1995

  • 1995-2004

     

    Traka grows rapidly, building upon its initial success, gaining many major accounts and opening up extensive overseas markets.  Traka won the Queen's Award for Enterprise Innovation in 2004.

  • 2004-2007

    The Traka iFob is developed and quickly becomes established as a cost-effective access control solution  for keys. The solution is adopted across a number of applications vehicle management, data racks in IT data centres., Banks and cash-in-transit sorting centres. 

2007 New premises and new products

In early 2007 Traka moves to new premises, tripling its production capacity, and introduces new solutions in its product set to meet the increasing range of client applications. Innovations included a new range of intelligent electronic lockers using RFID technology to safeguard and manage access to assets such as PDAs, laptops, cash trays, security radios and small weapons.

 

2012 Traka is aquired by ASSA ABLOY

Traka is acquired by ASSA ABLOY in April 2012 making us part of the multi-billion pound global leader in door opening solutions.

 

2019

ASSA ABLOY acquires KEYper Systems, a leading supplier of electronic and mechanical key management systems in the US with a strong presence in the automotive segment. KEYper became a separate business unit of Traka following the acquisition. Traka Oceania is established after the acquisition of distributor in Sydney.
