Project Engineer
Job Summary
The Project Engineer supports plant cost-out initiatives as well as productivity improvements; solves problems, executes objectives, and effects short-term and some long-term business goals; and communicates Denison operation goals/programs/processes to all associates.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- (40%) Completes productivity projects involving process, tool and part redesign
- Works with production leaders and support teams to uncover and assess /cost-out opportunities.
- Leads Denison team through productivity deck brainstorming process.
- Delivers breakthrough levels of improvement in process capability and part quality.
- (40%) Applies lean and six sigma tools to improve production efficiencies while reducing operating cost.
- Identifies opportunities for and leads Kaizen events to drive rapid step-function improvements.
- Provides leadership and direction to cross-functional team project teams
- Ensures on time execution of Lean Six Sigma Initiatives
- (15%) Serves as a change agent in institutionalizing quality in conjunction with the Manufacturing Engineers and Process Technicians.
- (5%) Continuously seeks, shares, and implements best practices.
Education and Experience Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering accompanied with training in statistics and data analysis required. Requires up to two (2) years previous related work experience. Experience in stamping, casting or injection molding industries is preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; statistically literate and familiar with Six Sigma methodology. Ability to earn Six Sigma Green Belt certification required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated commitment for process improvement.
Preferred Skills
- Engineering project management (manufacturing, process engineering, project engineering or quality engineering) experience strongly preferred.
- Experience making productivity improvements in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience with Minitab software and leading Kaizen events strongly preferred.
- Customer-focused in defining quality and establishing priorities strongly preferred.
- Change agent with strong credibility and influence in the organization preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate others and achieve results preferred.
- Executive level presentation skills preferred.
- CAD proficiency preferred (AutoCAD / Pro-E) preferred.
Work Environment:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment and non-climate controlled manufacturing facility.
Must be able to travel domestically 5% of time and internationally 5% of time.
