CNC Machinist

ASSA ABLOY is seeking a CNC Machinist to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for machining production parts and reworking a wide variety of out-of-spec supplier parts to print dimensions using CNC technology and manual machining methods. This role requires the ability to write CNC programs, fixture, setup, operate, and maintain CNC equipment. Also required is the ability to design and create multi-part fixtures to run small batches of the same part in CNC machines to improve productivity.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily:

 

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment to fabricate new parts or rework existing parts.
  • Design and fabricate fixtures for CNC machining of single parts, small batches of the same part, and for use on assembly lines.
  • Utilize manual machining equipment (mill, lathe, saw, surface grinder) when necessary.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Planning to discuss product and production requirements.
  • Interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and sketches to plan layouts and determine machining operations.
  • Perform basic plate layouts for self-inspection and quality control.
  • Proficient use of precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and tools.
  • Maintain machines, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure a clean and organized shop.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process enhancements to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and a minimum of 7 years related experience and/or training.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical education through a two-year college, trade school, or apprenticeship preferred.

 

Computer Skills

  • CNC programming, CAD/CAM software.
  • Manufacturing software throughout the day when processing work orders/jobs.
  • Ability to use MS Office for email and editing Word, Excel setup sheets and other documents.

 

Other Skills

  • Ability to use all varieties of hand and machine tools.
  • Ability to train and guide others in best practices and process improvements desired.
