Back-to-School Guide

As schools are kicking into gear across America, we wanted to take a minute to wish every student, professor, and school administrator good luck for the coming semester or year.

We understand that it can be difficult to go from the long summer break full of great memories, vacation, and fun, to the repetitious routine of classrooms, quizzes, meetings, and deadlines; so we wanted to take a minute to offer a guide to having a successful start to the new school year!

As an Administrator or Professor, are you prepared?

  • Before classes begin, hold a staff meeting! Starting the year off right doesn't happen by mistake. After all the planning that was done for the coming year, holding a staff meeting in the department will ensure that everyone is on the same page. Make it easy to avoid mistakes and confusion by clearly telling all staff how the year or semester will look and where to turn if they need help or have any further questions throughout the year.
  • Stock up on office supplies! Besides having a syllabus, what else might be needed during the year that can be taken care of now? Be prepared for all the tasks that need to be tackled by making sure the office is fully stocked before the year begins. If there is not an inventory system in place already, consider starting one to avoid running out of supplies when they are needed the most.
  • Don't forget the local climate essentials! Schools have a reputation for being chilly and rain always comes when people are not prepared. Avoid having an unnecessarily rough day by keeping an umbrella and sweater in the office. Also consider other things that are commonly needed to successfully manage the local climate and try to keep a small stock of everything in the office.
  • Don't forget the keys! They will come in handy for unlocking buildings, offices, and classroom before classes start. The school probably has an extra set of keys somewhere, but finding them would take up unknown amounts of precious time, and with classes ranging from 45 mins to 1 hour, there is no time left to waste looking for the spare keys. Perhaps there is a designated place where extra keys are kept; if finding the keys is not the problem, it is still wasting time and payroll hours to physically get the keys that will get the job done.

Make sure you and your team always have access to the keys and important resources when they're needed with Traka Key Cabinets and Locker Solutions. With over 280 customers in the educational industry, we've learned what it takes to make your school run as smooth as possible.
