Traka cabinet foils jewellery raid in Switzerland
04/03/2010
Switzerland: In a recent raid, a jewellers shop was attacked by gangsters and had all pieces of jewellery stolen, valued at a huge amount of money. The raid was 'heavy' . Upon entering the shop, a number of gangsters held pistols at the heads of employees. Based on this very strong argument, they were forced to open their Key Cabinet. Because all keys were hanging on hooks the gangsters were able to clear all the armoured showcases very quickly. Within a few minutes the gangsters had completed the raid and driven away. Due to the nature of the raid, their insurance company told the jeweller that they now had to install an electronic key cabinet which connected directly with the Police Station, otherwise the contract would be cancelled. After a market analysis the jeweller decided to use a TRAKA key management system because of its very compact size and the inherent security features, which includes a special silent alarm.
Now all keys are protected with a very strong lock which secures the iFOBs (and attached keys) so each is individually locked in the cabinet. Additionally, it is no longer possible to remove all the keys at the same time. This sophisticated approach deters any potential raid. Keys can now only be released one at a time, which would significantly slow down any potential raid. The cabinet is also linked directly to the local Police Station which means that if a "Silent Alarm" does occur, the cabinet will inform the Police Station and 3 minutes later any potential raider would be looking into a large number of Police machine guns!
A few months later, the raiders tried their luck again, not realising the key management system had been changed. Realising their mistake, they fled empty handed, only to be apprehended and arrested by the Police who were waiting for them outside the jewellers store!
